Pets
Stewart, born in 2002 (he is the yellow one) was adopted from the D.C. Animal Shelter as a 5-month old, and has blossomed into a fearless hunter (in the fenced back yard). Rooney, (the grey one) born in 2004, was kindly given to me by one of our favorite clients, Ms. Koski. Rooney was born with cerebellar hypoplasia, caused by a viral infection during gestation. Kittens with the condition are born without the portion of the brain that controls balance and coordination, but everything else about them is normal. Rooney is clumsy but happy and is the most loving of cats. He loves to wrestle with Stewart. |
Personal Facts
Betsy grew up in Michigan, left the ice and snow during her college years, and has lived on the east coast since (Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia and now Northern Virginia). After her residency she stayed at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, first as a lecturer then as a clinician-educator on the faculty, until 1997, when she moved to Virginia and started to practice at SouthPaws. She was president of the DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine in 2006-2007 and remains on the board of directors. She and her husband Clyde Hart sail and play recreational hockey, love gardening and visiting the myriad museums in DC and the surrounding area. They are "die-hard" fans of the Washington Capitals Hockey Team, and can be found at the Verizon Center for all the home games. |
